First School is a
support ministry of First Baptist Church. The purpose of the school is to
provide children with a real opportunity to learn the Christian way of life on
their own level. They will do this as they work with loving, understanding
teachers who express Christian ideas and attitudes in thought, word, and deed
and as they use interesting materials in work and play situations with other
It is also the objective to provide a warm, loving environment in which each child is recognized for his or her uniqueness and is encouraged to develop to his or her potential. Our teachers provide a nurturing environment to promote academic, spiritual, emotional and social growth. Through positive reinforcement, we strive to instill the value and joy of learning within each child.
At First School, we provide a safe environment for our students, with limited access to the building. We take pride in knowing that parents can rest well knowing that their children are in a safe environment where they can learn and grow. All staff are certified in ADE, CPR and First Aid.

Amanda has been with
First School since 2016. She began as a substitute teacher for all the classes.
She became a teacher of two- year-olds in 2017 before becoming the Director in 2021.
She holds a degree in Business Office Technology and Accounting.
She loves that it is a small school so that the family of the students become family and friends to her, and she is grateful that she gets to watch them grow from the 2–year-old program to kindergarten and beyond.
She was born and raised in Jesup and has been married for 17 years and has three boys. In her free time, she likes to travel, grow and put-up food from her garden and raise chickens.
My name is Pam Shaver. I help the Director in any capacity and assist the teachers. This is my 3rd year at First School. This is a very rewarding job watching the children excel academically, but the most rewarding of all is watching them learn about Jesus.
My name is Leanne Vanderveen. I am 52 years old. I have been teaching at First School since 2001 – when my own children were small. I have been teaching kindergarten for eight years. I am married, have two adult children, and one precious grandchild. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University. It is both a wonderful opportunity and a great responsibility to teach young children. Kindergarten is a busy, fun, full year of learning that gets a child ready for first grade. I sincerely believe, though, that the most important thing I can teach any child is about Jesus and His great love for us.
For the last five years I've had the honor of
teaching at First Baptist School, the last three I have been leading our prekindergarten
program. I obtained my Associates Degree
in Early Childhood Education in 2021. I
am the mother of two amazing kids who keep me very busy with their many
extracurricular activities. I previously
worked in the medical field, but I truly believe I belong in early childhood
education. I enjoy working with younger
children as we work to introduce them to school settings so they can flourish
to be their best self by encouraging growth, limiting distractions and focusing
I am Mrs. Danielle! I have
been working at First School for almost four years! I have been working in the
field of education for six years. I have worked with children from toddler age
to fifth grade. I have an associate of science and early childhood education
degree. I have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood/Elementary Education, and
I am currently working on my master’s degree in early childhood/Elementary
Education with a focus on curriculum and instruction. I believe in creating a
welcoming and engaging environment for diverse learners to grow cognitively,
socially, emotionally, and physically. I strive to create lessons and
activities that promote language, fine motor, and gross motor skill
My name is Jennifer Daniels, and I am one of the 3-year-old teachers for First School. I am married to my husband Lee, and we have two boys, Harm and Holt. I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. I have been teaching dance, baton, and acrobatics for over 20 years. I have been a substitute teacher for First School for the past 3 years. I am beyond excited to be teaching your little ones and cannot wait to learn and grow together!
Hello! My name is Hattie Rogers and
this will be my second-year teaching at First School. I’m a
mom of two and absolutely adore
watching littles grow. I look forward to helping further your
little ones cognitive, social, and
developmental goals. We love to have a fun and hands on
educational experience and I’m always
thinking of fun new ways to teach and play. I hope to
continue working and teaching with a
faith-based atmosphere for many years.
