First School is a
support ministry of First Baptist Church. The purpose of the school is to
provide children with a real opportunity to learn the Christian way of life on
their own level. They will do this as they work with loving, understanding
teachers who express Christian ideas and attitudes in thought, word, and deed
and as they use interesting materials in work and play situations with other
children.
It is also the
objective to provide a warm, loving environment in which each child is
recognized for his or her uniqueness and is encouraged to develop to his or her
potential. Our teachers provide a nurturing environment to promote academic,
spiritual, emotional and social growth. Through positive reinforcement, we
strive to instill the value and joy of learning within each child.
At First School, we
provide a safe environment for our students, with limited access to the
building. We take pride in knowing that parents can rest well knowing that
their children are in a safe environment where they can learn and grow. All
staff are certified in ADE, CPR and First Aid.

Director
Amanda Jacobs
I have been with First School since 2016, when my youngest was in the 3-year-old class. I started off as a substitute teacher, then became a teacher of the 2-year-old class in 2017 and finally in 2021 I became the Director of First School. I hold a degree in Business Office Technology and Accounting.
I love that First School is a small school so that the family of the students become family and friends to me. I love that I get to watch the students grow from the 2-year-old program to kindergarten and beyond. I am grateful that not only do I get to see the students grow academically but also with God.
I was born and raised in Jesup and have been married for over 20 years and have three boys. In my free time I like to travel and work on my little farm.
Assistant
Director
Pam Shaver
My name is Pam Shavor. I help the Director in any capacity and assist the teachers. I have been with First School since 2019. This is a very rewarding job watching the children excel academically, but the most rewarding of all is watching them learn about Jesus.
Teacher of
Kindergarten
Leanne Vanderveen
My name is Leanne Vanderveen. I am 54 years old. I have been teaching at First School since 2001-when my own children were small. I have been teaching kindergarten for ten years. I am married, have two adult children, and two precious grandchildren. I have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Georgia Southern University.
It is both a wonderful opportunity and a great responsibility to teach young children. Kindergarten is a busy, fun, full year of learning that gets a child ready for first grade. I sincerely believe though, that the most important thing I can teach any child is about Jesus and His great love for us.
Teacher of
Pre-K's
Mindi Jacobs
Starting in 2020 I have had the honor of teaching at First School. I have been leading our prekindergarten program. I obtained my associate's degree in early childhood education in 2021. I am the mother of two amazing kids who keep me very busy with their many extracurricular activities. I previously worked in the medical field, but I truly believe I belong in early childhood education.
I enjoy working with younger children as we work to introduce them to a school setting so they can flourish to be their best self by encouraging growth, limiting distractions and focusing on goals.
